A Planning Board workshop scheduled for Tuesday about a proposal to increase height limits on Portland’s western waterfront from 45 feet to 70 feet is being postponed, according to city officials.
Although the proposal being pursued by the city’s Economic Development Department would affect much of the area from the Casco Bay Bridge to the Veterans Memorial Bridge, city Waterfront Coordinator Bill Needelman said the postponement was requested by Americold Logistics LLC so it could assemble more information about community benefits and draft more detailed renderings of a cold storage facility it’s looking to build just west of the Casco Bay Bridge.
The proposed height increase has generated significant opposition from West End residents, who are concerned about the loss of their waterfront views and the design of the 68-foot tall warehouse.
Needelman said the workshop has not been rescheduled.
