I agree with all the letters written urging Congress to keep the good parts of the Affordable Care Act and fix the parts of the plan that aren’t working. Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater

Examples of the parts of the plan that should be kept are protections for people with pre-existing conditions, and allowing parents to keep their children on their plan until they’re 26. Payment and the penalties for not filing should be replaced with a better option.

Having worked in the medical profession for over 30 years, I believe what others have suggested: that we have a Medicare-for-all plan of medical payment. There are members of Congress who have a “my way or the highway” attitude, and they want to repeal the whole plan without a plan to replace it.

I agree with Sen. Susan Collins and some others that this is not acceptable. I feel that these members of Congress are kowtowing to the insurance and pharmaceutical industries. They also have the best insurance in the country, and they don’t understand what the people go through.

Everyone needs to call or write their representative and senators and ask them not to start from square one but have a true plan in place before they repeal anything.

Remember this: Countries that have a system where everyone is covered are healthier than the United States, and their health care costs are lower.
