SACO— There  is a race to decorate Thornton Academy’s Michael Laverriere in athletic honors. 

In addition to recently being named a finalist for the 46th annual Fitzpatrick Trophy, on Monday Gatorade announced that Laverriere  has been chosen as the Maine football player of the year, and is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Football Player of the Year award. 

Laverriere qualified for the award based on his exemplary athletic talents, 3.49 GPA, and exceptional community spirit. The National award winners will be announced in December.
