Papa was born in East Boston, Massachusetts, on Nov. 18, 1917, a son of Placid and Elizabeth (Landry) Fougere. He later moved to Maine after proudly serving in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. Soon after arriving in Maine he met the love of his life, Lorraine Dupuis. For 40 years, they were together every day until her passing on March 5, 1990. Papa loved this woman so much, he put two roses, which where her favorite flower, on her grave the fifth of every month. He missed her dearly.
Papa enjoyed bingo so much so that he had a following at the bingo halls. He loved feeding his birds and working in his workshop to create masterpieces for us to have forever. His family meals were always a celebration. He could make a spaghetti sauce that would make any Italian proud. His salads were magazine worthy and oh so delicious. If you were to ask anyone what they remember about Papa, it would be his 1971 turquoise Plymouth Fury III, which he gave away to a person in need. He was then able to buy his truck that he always wanted. He was active in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives. He often took them to Paras Pizza. You would often catch him sitting in the screen house, playing pass in the front yard with the football, mastering his croquet swing, camping, and playing pool. He loved scratch tickets, which were never his winnings but ours. He had been thrown in the pool at a family gathering and Grammie collected his money to hang on the line to dry. He shared endless candy in his pantry that we all enjoyed, his intercom in his car that we all got to hear, and learning to dance to Frank Sinatra. Funtown was a summer trip as well as our regular lobster feeds. Every birthday was honored with a birthday cake from Reilly’s Bakery purchased by Papa.
Papa is now with his wife, parents, siblings and a special boy, Raymond. He is now enjoying a new phase in his life.
He leaves behind: his legacy with his daughter, Carol Boucher and her husband, Norman;his four grandchildren, Lynne Boston and husband, Rick, Brenda LaFrance and husband, Jim, Shirley Dickson and Belinda Jones; his great-grandchildren, Bethany, Anthony, Matthew, Brianna, Mikala, Noah, Garrett, Sophia, Joanna, Jacob, Grace and Memphis; and his great-great granddaughter, Kennedie; nieces, Peggy Kathy and Anita Busby; and nephew, Mike Dougherty; and friend, Anna Jean Goathwaite; along with many other nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
We miss him immensely, but we are better people because of our “Papa”.
Visiting hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017, at Cote Funeral Home, 87 James St., Saco. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017, at Most Holy Trinity Church, Saco. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Biddeford.
