SACO — James Barnes, Jr. 66,  formerly of Saco, passed unexpectedly, Friday, at his home.

Jim was born to the late Avis and James Barnes Sr. He graduated from Old Orchard Beach High School and went on to receive a degree from Westbrook College. Thereafter he enlisted and proudly served in the US Air Force.

Jim returned home and began his family who, undoubtedly, was his pride and joy. He loved spending time with his two daughters, Jodi Priest and Jamie Barnes of Saco, and his son, James Barnes III of Biddeford. Jim was also preceded in death by a son, Jason Barnes.

Anyone who knew Jim, knew he was happiest outdoors. He had a camp in Palmyra where he always said, “Everyone is welcome.” He especially loved having his grandsons and daughter there to share his passion for hunting.

He was employed at what is now Southern Maine Health Care where he dedicated over 30 years of service before retiring and moving to Hartland with his companion Evelyn Skillings. He loved the simple, carefree way of life there, but missed his family dearly. Jim touched the lives of many and will always be remembered for his kind heart and sense of humor.

He will be forever missed by: his children and his grandchildren, Colby and Matea Priest, Joey, James, Avalynn and Jake McCullum, and Seth and Zoeigh Barnes; his siblings, Shirley Barnes Andrews of Old Orchard and Patricia Wright of Palermo; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Merrill and Janet Hanlon.

Services for Jim will be Tuesday, May 23 at 2 p.m. at the Laurel Hill Chapel on Beach Street in Saco.
