SANFORD — SIS Bank is proud to announce the one-year anniversary of its Employee Donation Program and to mark the occasion, the Bank has donated $500 to Waterboro Community Pantry.

As part of the monthly program, SIS President and CEO Mark T. Mickeriz selects an employee at random, who is then given the honor of picking a local nonprofit that is meaningful to them to receive the $500 gift.

This month, Waterboro branch Assistant Manager Julie Kelley was the staff member receiving the altruistic opportunity.

According to the U.S Census Bureau, 8.4 percent of Waterboro residents live below poverty level; and 36 percent of the population considered to be food insecure still make too much money to qualify for food stamps or other government assistance.

Earlier this year, the Waterboro Food Pantry’s new state-of-the-art food network facility opened its doors, but continued donations are crucial to cover operating costs and to stock the pantry.

“We’re glad we could be of service to the Waterboro community with this contribution and help maintain the health and nourishment of those in need in our area,” Mickeriz said. “It’s been our honor to aid in the betterment of our neighborhoods through the Employee Donation Program over the past year, and we look forward to continuing the philanthropy.”

Founded in 1933 and headquartered in Sanford, with additional branch locations in Springvale, South Sanford, Limerick, Buxton, Waterboro, Wells and York, Maine and Portsmouth, New Hampshire, SIS is a mutual savings bank that operates solely for the benefit of its deposit and loan customers and is focused on giving back to the communities where it serves.
