Portland police are investigating a shooting Tuesday night that wounded a man.

The man reportedly was taken to Maine Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and rushed into surgery.

WCSH-TV reported that the shooting happened Tuesday night at about 10 p.m. at the intersection of Cumberland Avenue and Preble Street, and that authorities shut down a section of Preble Street.

Lt. Robert Martin told the Portland station they do not believe anyone else is in danger. However, the shooter, who ran toward Cumberland Avenue, is still at large.

Police believe the victim and the shooter knew each other, but police did not say if they know the shooter’s identity.
The shooter was described as a white male, about 6 feet tall, with long brown hair.

The Portland Police Department crime unit responded to the scene.
