As I listen to the discussions regarding the changes that Donald Trump wishes to bring about in our country, I find a major lack of any genuine discussion as to what his priorities are. These are far more significant than his tax proposals. Money is never primary. It is secondary. We all know that if we want to do something, we can find the money. And if we don’t want to do something, we just can’t find the money. Thus, as a nation, we are permitting money to get in the way of his priorities.
However, when we look at his priorities first, we find that he wants to cut benefits for low-income Americans, lower taxes for high-income Americans, reduce health insurance coverage for those most in need of such insurance, and scare non-native born Americans out of the benefits of living in this country. It is as a result of these priorities that he wants to alter the tax code.
It is time that we were honest about what Mr. Trump stands for, and call a spade a spade and not a “digging implement.” His telling us about taxes first is a subterfuge. Let’s not be fooled. It is his priorities that count.
