YORK (AP) — Officials of a Maine town say they’ve lost hundreds of thousands of dollars due to faulty parking kiosks installed in May.
The electronic parking meters installed by the town of York have had problems since they were installed. The kiosks were meant to replace a set of vintage quarters-only parking meters originally installed in the 1960s.
One of the problems was that if a credit card was inserted incorrectly, people would need to use a pair of pliers to remove the card from the electronic card reader.
Town Manager Stephen Burns says it’s impossible to know how much money the town lost due to the problems, but guessed it was likely tens of thousands of dollars.
