Our vibrant, delightful city is in its second term with an elected mayor. Direct and indirect costs associated with the position indicate a cost-benefit ratio of close to zero (egos excepted).
I ask you, the voter, to contact me if you would participate in an early evening session or sessions at City Hall to draft a referendum question to be put on a city ballot. The referendum would call for eliminating the position of elected mayor from Portland’s governance structure.
We would return to the former method of mayor selection; it worked very well. Costs saved by eliminating the position could eventually fund something worthwhile.
I can be contacted by mail at 50 Autumn Lane, Portland 04103, or by email at dozierhank@gmail.com.
