An accident Sunday afternoon in the southbound lanes of Interstate 295 in Yarmouth caused traffic to back up for miles.

A dispatcher for the Maine State Police communications center said the crash took place around 3:08 p.m. in the vicinity of mile marker 16. No injuries were reported.

The accident snarled traffic for more than an hour before state troopers were able to clear the scene around 4:12 p.m. Traffic in both the southbound and northbound lanes was heavy at the time of the accident.
