ALFRED — A York County grand jury handed up a Class B felony indictment charging a 32-year-old Limington man with operating a methamphetamine lab in Cornish.

James Wildes, 32, was living on Kimball Hill Road in Cornish when the lab was discovered. The indictment, handed up Tuesday, lists his address as Limington though Wildes is presently incarcerated at Maine State Prison.

The methamphetamine lab was discovered by state probation officers April 12, while they were conducting a check on Wildes, who was serving probation after robbing a Skowhegan pharmacy in 2010, Maine Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said following the arrest.

Wildes was taken to York County Jail following his arrest on the methamphetamine charge. He was released to the custody of Maine State Prison on July 18, a York County Jail corrections officer said Friday. He remains incarcerated at the state prison, where he was ordered returned following a probation revocation at Somerset County Superior Court July 14.

Wildes was originally sentenced to 15 years in prison, with all but five years suspended, and four years probation on the 2010 robbery charge.

According to the state corrections’ department webpage, his  earliest release date in connection with that incident is set for Feb. 22, 2022.

An arraignment date on the methamphetamine charge has not been set.

McCausland said ingredients and equipment used in manufacture of methamphetamine including an active “one pot” lab, were found inside Wildes’ home during the probation check, along with evidence of earlier manufacturing and a small amount of methamphetamine.

The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency’s meth lab team along with MDEA York County Task Force agents responded to Wildes’ home following the discovery.

An indictment is a finding that enough evidence exists to move forward with prosecution.

The April discovery was the 14th  methamphetamine-related response by MDEA at that time this year.
