A woman was transported to the hospital Friday after she drove her car into an apartment building at the corner of Falmouth and Payson streets in Portland just before 3 p.m.

The building is the site of the former Nathan Clifford Elementary School.

Deputy Fire Chief John Everett said the woman was taken to the hospital as a precaution. He did not know her age or where she lives.

“I don’t believe she lived in the building,” he said.

Portland police did not have information about the accident Friday night.

The damage was limited to a bump-out in a basement area and looked worse than it was, Everett said.

“It’s not like it is in someone’s living room or anything like that,” he said
