Ehryn Groothoff, Yarmouth soccer: The sophomore midfielder scored all three of Yarmouth’s first-half goals in the Class B state champion-ship game against Presque Isle, helping the Clippers pull away for a 9-0 victory and their second straight title. Yarmouth became the first team – boys or girls – to score more than seven goals in a soccer state final. Groothoff also scored the only goal in a tough, 1-0 regional final victory against Cape Elizabeth.

Honorable mention

Kassie Krul, Camden Hills soccer: The junior midfielder scored twice in the Class A state championship game to lead the Windjammers past Scarborough, 3-2, for their second straight title. Krul put Camden Hills on the board in the first 15 minutes with a goal assisted by Eliza Roy, then added another early in the second half off a long free kick to give the Windjammers a 3-0 lead.

Meredith Lane, Yarmouth soccer: A senior goalkeeper, Lane did not allow a postseason goal as the Clippers completed an 18-0 season for their second straight Class B state title. Yarmouth finished the season with a 91-4 scoring advantage, and Lane had a hand in 15 shutouts.

Gaby Panagakos, Scarborough soccer: A senior forward, Panagakos scored her team-leading 21st goal of the season as the Red Storm fought back from a three-goal deficit before falling 3-2 to Camden Hills in the Class A state championship game. Scarborough finished 16-1-1.

Garret Aube

Garret Aube, Falmouth football: A senior, Aube scored three touchdowns in a 32-20 upset of Kennebunk in a Class B South semifinal. Aube rushed for 128 yards, including scoring runs of 52 and 66 yards. He also returned an interception 75 yards for a touchdown.

Honorable mention

Jack Jones, Yarmouth soccer: The junior forward scored the winner with 14:10 remaining in the Class B state championship game, converting a pass from Eric LaBrie as the Clippers beat Winslow 2-1 for their fourth straight title.

Zoltan Panyi, Scarborough football: A senior quarterback, Panyi ran for three touchdowns and passed for two more to lead the No. 1 Red Storm to a 53-15 victory over No. 5 Sanford in a Class A South semifinal. Panyi scored on runs of 5, 5 and 85 yards and passed for touchdowns of 7 and 38 yards.

Ryan Weare, Cape Elizabeth football: A junior fullback, Weare carried 39 times for 129 yards and a touchdown as the Capers wore down Fryeburg Academy to win a Class C South semifinal, 14-0. On the only scoring drive of the first half, measuring 61 yards, Weare carried 11 times in succession.
