A relatively weak earthquake centered in Sagadahoc County occurred Wednesday night.

The event happened at 6:47 p.m. and measured magnitude 2.6 on the Richter scale, according to the website for the United States Geological Survey. The quake’s epicenter was in the town of Dresden.

Earthquakes measuring 2.0 or less on that scale are described as microearthquakes and are generally not felt by people, though they are measurable on seismographs.
