AUGUSTA — It was a day for the Scots.

Bonny Eagle football players were each named winners of the Frank J. Gaziano Memorial Awards on Saturday as the best linemen in the state.

Arlo Pike was named the top defensive lineman, while Zach Klein was named the top offensive lineman, giving the Scots a sweep of the awards in a ceremony at the Augusta Civic Center.

“Its a great day to be a Bonny Eagle Scot!,” remarked a tweet sent out by Kevin Cooper, Bonny Eagle’s football coach.

Klein was an SMAA All-Academic selection and the 2017 Gerry Raymond Award winner as the best lineman in the SMAA. He created and contributes to the “Fight Like a Scot” program to raise money for cancer research after his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer during his freshman year.

Pike was an all-SMAA choice as a player and a student. He is also a captain of Bonny Eagle’s baseball team, and volunteers at the local food bank with the Standish Kiwanis and youth football programs.
