BRUNSWICK

The Brunswick Public Works Department has announced that construction will start Monday on Union Street, which will involve some road closures.

Crooker Construction, LLC, plans to start the pipe work on the utility improvements for Union Street, which will be closed to all traffic between Mill Street and Lincoln Street for a couple weeks starting Monday.

Crooker will start work Monday using a large piece of equipment to pulverize the pavement on this section of  road. Excavation will also begin on Monday to replace the existing storm drain piping and structures that run along the east side of Union Street starting at Mill Street. Mill Street will remain open.

Union Street will be closed to traffic during work hours (generally 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday), and will reopen to limited local access outside of work hours. No parking in the closed area will be allowed at any time during the estimated two week work period for this section of Union Street.

When Union Street work is taking place, Gilman Avenue will be closed to thru traffic and only local traffic will be permitted to enter and exit Gilman Avenue from Maine Street. Flaggers will be on site to direct traffic in and out of the street. Gilman Avenue will reopen to traffic when work ends daily on Union Street. Union Street and Gilman Avenue will be open to traffic on the weekend.

For this initial phase of the work, Lincoln Street will remain open but will only be accessible from the south side of Union Street.

Union Street businesses remain open while the construction is on-going and customers are advised to park on side streets and use the public sidewalks to get to each business.
