Victoria Bossong

Victoria Bossong, Cheverus track and field: The freshman turned in two state-best times and played a role in a third to lead the Stags to the Class A girls’ team title. Bossong won the 100-meter dash in 12.14 seconds, the 400 meters in 56.95 and was part of Cheverus’ winning 1,600 relay team (4:05.00).

HONORABLE MENTION

Erin Chadbourne and Rose Watson, Portland tennis: Sophomores playing second doubles, Chadbourne and Watson survived two match points before winning the final four games in a 6-3, 6-7 (5), 7-5 victory over Thornton Academy, advancing the Bulldogs to the regional final.

Lily Horne, Freeport track and field: The junior doubled up and won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races at the Class B state meet. Her 3,200 time of 11 minutes, 17.84 seconds was the fastest this season in Maine.

Reilly Eddy, Traip softball: The senior pitcher struck out 14 in a five-inning, 12-0 Class C prelim playoff win against Telstar. She also went 3 for 4 with three RBI.

Mitchell Libby

Mitchell Libby, Wells track and field: The senior held off rival Dalan Hubbard of Traip Academy to win the 800 meters in 1 minute, 59.41 seconds at the Class C state meet. Libby also won the 3,200 meters and anchored the Warriors’ winning 1,600 relay team to ensure a team runner-up finish.

HONORABLE MENTION

Travis Snyder, Thornton Academy track and field: The junior won three events at the Class A state meet to help the Golden Trojans tie for the title. Snyder won the 110-meter hurdles (14.96), the 300 hurdles (41.53) and pole vault (14 feet, 9 inches). He also placed sixth in the long jump (20-10).

Luke Laverdiere, Yarmouth track and field: The senior won the 1,600 meters (4:23.07) and the 3,200 meters (9:45.49) at the Class B state meet – the third straight year he was a champion in at least two individual distance races.

David Fiorini, South Portland lacrosse: The junior attack had six goals with two assists as the fifth-seeded Red Riots rolled to a 15-1 Class A South quarterfinal win at Bonny Eagle.
