SANFORD — Firefighters in Sanford will pause on Sunday to remember their own during a memorial service set for 1 p.m. at Central Station, 972 Main St., followed by an open house.

The event, which will feature the reading of the names of Sanford firefighters who have passed away, is held annually and organizers say the public is encouraged to attend.

The ceremony will also feature a blessing of the fleet, conducted by the Rev. Philip Tracy of St. Therese of Lisieux and a dedication of the ceremonial bell tower.

Organizers say there will be station tours — including looking at new equipment such as the newest firefighting tool in the fleet — ladder 37.

Fire Chief Steve Benotti said the safety trailer will be on display, and there will be food, fun, and more.
