BRUNSWICK — The Bowdoin College football team will battle Bates for the 121st time at Whittier Field on Saturday.
It is the 10th-longest rivalry in Division III football, dating back to 1889. Both teams are in search of their first win of the 2018 campaign.
Saturday will be the final home game at Whittier Field for 16 members of the Bowdoin football program. They will be honored in a pregame ceremony for their dedication to the program over the last four years.
Saturday’s game will be a historic occasion as it will be the first-ever “night” game at Whittier Field, with sundown set for 5:29 p.m. It also believed to be the first night game in the 127-year history of Bowdoin football.
Due to the amount of rain and conditions within the main tailgating area inside Whittier Field, this weekend’s tailgating section has been moved to the Dayton lot across Sills Drive, adjacent to the path to Whittier Field. For complete details, find the parking map for this weekend here.
CBB UPDATE — The chase for the CBB (Colby-Bates-Bowdoin) Championship began in earnest last week as Colby knocked off Bates, 21-6. The Bobcats, who have won a record six straight CBB titles, can still retain the trophy with a win over Bowdoin and Bowdoin victory over Colby next Saturday.
The Polar Bears are looking for their first CBB crown since 2010. The Mules are in search of their first CBB championship since 2005. Bowdoin leads the series with 19 CBB wins, followed by 10 apiece for Colby and Bates.

LAST WEEK — In torrential rain in Middletown, Connecticut, the Bowdoin offense failed to get on track in a 24-0 loss to Wesleyan. In a snowstorm in Lewiston, the Bobcats surrendered 236 yards rushing in a 21-6 loss to Colby.
LAST MEETING — Last year in Lewiston, Bates claimed their record sixth consecutive CBB Championship by holding off a late Bowdoin rally in a 24-17 victory. The Bobcats built a 24-10 fourth quarter lead, but Bowdoin closed the gap with a 26-yard touchdown pass from Noah Nelson to Gregory Olson with 13 minutes to go. The Polar Bears had two possessions in Bates territory in the final four minutes, but couldn’t find the equalizing touchdown. Brendan Costa rushed for 171 yards for Bates. Noah Nelson had 302 yards passing for Bowdoin.
BOWDOIN vs. BATES — ALL TIME — The Polar Bears hold a 66-46-7 edge in the all-time series but Bates has won seven straight, their longest winning streak in the rivalry.
