TOPSHAM — Austin Damon hit a pair of free throws late in regulation to seal Mt. Ararat’s 54-48 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference boys high school basketball win over previously unbeaten Leavitt on Monday.
The Eagles improved to 8-6, while the Hornets fell to 11-1.
Mt. Ararat opened strong, grabbing an 18-9 first-quarter lead behind three 3-pointers by Nate Taylor. The lead was 27-17 at the half, and the Eagles extended out to a 38-25 edge after three.
In the fourth, Eagles standout Jared Balser (12 points, 12 rebounds) fouled out, and Leavitt, behind 21 second-half points from Wyatt Hathaway, clawed to within three points.
Damon finished with 17 points and 14 rebounds, while Taylor added 10 points.
Leavitt’s Josiah Learned chipped in 18 points in the loss.
At the free-throw line, the Eagles were 7-of-14 and the Hornets 19-of-25.
Mt. Ararat heads to Camden Hills on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Girls basketball
BATH — Brunswick (12-1) jumped out to a 38-9 halftime lead and cruised to a 66-26 KVAC victory over rival Morse at Bath Middle School.
Charlotte MacMillan scored 10 of her game-high 13 points in the first half and pulled down six rebounds, dished out four assists and blocked four shots.
Marley Groat and Logan Brown split 18 points down the middle in the win, with Groat adding four steals, while Brown had six boards and four assists. Emily Larochelle chipped in eight points, with Mackenzie Dorr pitching in eight points and three steals.
Brook Kulis and Marija Medenica had six points apiece for Morse (0-14).
Brunswick returns to action with a pair of games later this week. The Dragons head to Medomak Valley on Friday and hosts Messalonskee on Saturday.
Morse visits Maranacook on Jan. 29.

Ainsley Bryant had 14 points to power the visiting Eagles to a KVAC win at Turner.
Mt. Ararat is 7-7 ahead of Thursday’s home matchup with Camden Hills (7 p.m.).
The Eagles led 13-5, 25-13 and 40-27 at the quarter breaks.
Theresa Breed added 12 points, while Kyla Greenleaf threw in 11. Jaden Lohr and Abby Sirois picked up eight rebounds apiece. Bryant dished out four assists and had four steals, with Alexa Eaton picking up four steals.
Alison Noriewicz led Leavitt with 11 points, followed by Emelia Bowie with 10.
At the line, the Eagles were a solid 17-of-25, while the Hornets finished 13-of-16.
Boys hockey
BRUNSWICK — Noah Austin scored two goals and goalie Sean Moore stopped all 24 shots he faced as Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse/Hyde (6-6-1) shut out Leavitt/Gray-New Gloucester/Oak Hill (4-5-1), 3-0, at Sidney J. Watson Arena.
Tristen Cloutier also scored for Mt. Ararat.
Xavier Michaud made 20 saves for the visitors.
The Eagles visit Massabesic/Bonny Eagle/Old Orchard Beach on Saturday.
Girls hockey
YARMOUTH — Avery Lutrzykowski notched three goals and assisted on three others to lead St. Dom’s past Yarmouth/Freeport, 10-0, at Travis Roy Ice Arena.
Bugsy Hammerton added two goals and three assists for the Saints, while netminder Maddie Boulet picked up the shutout.
The Clippers are 8-5 heading into Wednesday’s road game against Portland/Deering (4 p.m.).
Bowdoin
BRUNSWICK — David Reynolds matched his career high with 31 points to lead the Polar Bears to a convincing 74-46 win over Maine-Farmington on Monday evening.
The game was originally scheduled to be played in Farmington but was moved to Brunswick due to heating issues at the Maine-Farmington gymnasium.
The Polar Bears improved to 11-5 with the win, while the Beavers fell to 10-6.
The Polar Bears took complete command from the get-go, scoring the first 14 points of the game, highlighted by an alley-oop dunk from Hugh O’Neil.
Bowdoin built its lead to as many as 24 points in the first half and led 40-16 at intermission. Reynolds scored 16 points in the opening period.
UMF made a bid to get back into the contest in the opening minutes of the second half, outscoring Bowdoin 12-3, closing to within 15 points, 43-28, following a running layup by Amir Moss with 16:54 remaining.
Bowdoin answered with a quick 7-0 run, sparked by a Reynolds 3-pointer, to quickly push the lead back to 22 points.
Jack Simonds added 12 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals for Bowdoin, while O’Neil and Zavier Rucker had nine points apiece.
Bowdoin returns to NESCAC action on Friday when the Polar Bears head to Hamilton for a 7 p.m. contest.
