SACO The Boston Red Sox slugged 105 home runs at Fenway Park last season and as a result, Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution donated $5,400 to six school nutrition programs throughout York and Cumberland counties.

As part of the Home Runs for Good initiative, SBSI donated $50 toward Maine school nutrition programs for every home run the Red Sox hit at home during the 2018 regular season. Throughout the playoffs and World Series, the value increased to $100.

“We are pleased to provide additional support to southern Maine’s school nutrition programs through Home Runs for Good,” said Bob Quentin, President and CEO of Saco & Biddeford Savings. “The Red Sox had a great season, and this was a fun way for the bank to celebrate their success and give to our communities at the same time.”

According to the Maine Department of Education, 47 percent of students across the state are eligible for free or reduced lunch. The funds from Home Runs for Good will be distributed equally to provide meals for students in Saco, Biddeford, Old Orchard Beach, Scarborough, South Portland and Westbrook.

In addition to Home Runs for Good, SBSI launched its Community Debit Card Program in 2017 as an ongoing initiative to help fund nutritional programs in schools in York and Cumberland counties. Each time SBSI customers use their Community Debit Card for a non-ATM transaction, SBSI will donate to one of their local school nutrition programs.
