BRUNSWICK — The Bowdoin College women’s tennis team picked up an 8-1 NESCAC win over Colby on Wednesday afternoon.

The Polar Bears rebounded to 10-3 (5-1 NESCAC). The Mules dropped to 6-6 (1-4 NESCAC).

Bowdoin cruised to a quick 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles. Both Julia Marks/Devon Wolfe at No. 1 andSasa Jovanovic/Fleming Landau at No. 3 picked up 8-3 wins.

Tasha Christ/Izzy Essi went 8-2 at No. 2.

Jovanovic made quick work at five, going 6-0, 6-0. Landau followed with a 6-0, 6-2 finish at six.

In the top spot, Marks won 6-0, 6-4. Wolfe (7-5, 6-4) and Essi (6-0, 7-5) battled for wins at three and four respectively.

Bowdoin hosts MIT on Friday at 3 p.m.

Baseball

Bowdoin picked up an 8-7 win over Husson on Wednesday evening at Bangor.

The Polar Bears earned their second out of conference victory of the season to improve to 5-17-1. The Eagles are 16-14.

Bowdoin jumped out to a three-run lead in the top of the first. Nick Merrill tagged an RBI single to left and Robbie Sarmanian hit a two-run single to right.

The hosts got one run back in the bottom of the second.

The Polar Bears plated two more runs in the third. Connor Lee drove in one and Ejaaz Jiu doubled to left for another.

James McCarthy accounted for Bowdoin’s final runs. The sophomore drove in two off a triple to right center and later scored on a passed ball.

Trailing 8-1, the Eagles climbed back into the game with a five-run fifth. Kobe Rogerson and David LeBlanc each had an RBI single. Ethan Stoddard followed up with a two-run triple and Brandon Smith an RBI double.

Husson cut the deficit to one in the sixth as Nick Guerrette scored on a wild pitch.

Colby Lewis pitched the ninth and struck out three batters to preserve the one-run lead for Bowdoin.

Smith led both teams, going 3-for-4 at the plate while driving in two runs. Sarmanian and McCarthy each had two RBIs.

Merrill, Sarmanian, Jiu and Jack Wilhoite each had a stolen base. Andrew Cohen pitched 4 1/3 innings and surrendered eight hits with four strikeouts.

The Polar Bears begin their NESCAC league series with Bates on Friday, at Lewiston, with a 3 p.m. start. The teams play a doubleheader at Brunswick on Saturday with a noon start.

Women’s lacrosse

Eliza Denious tied her career-high single game scoring mark with seven goals as Bowdoin raced past Endicott, 18-7, on Wednesday evening.

The Polar Bears improved to 8-5. Endicott is 10-5 with four of its five losses coming to NESCAC opponents.

Kara Finnerty quickly put Bowdoin up 1-0, winning the game’s first draw control and racing down the field for an unassisted tally. Fiona Bundy and Denious each scored goals in the first minute of game time to give Bowdoin a quick 3-0 lead.

Elizabeth Growney pushed the Polar Bear lead to four before Endicott found the back of the net at 26:06 off an unassisted mark from Maya Feigenbaum.

Jennifer Lacroix doubled the Gulls goal tally at 16:58, but the Polar Bears went on a 5-1 run to close out the half.

Trailing 12-3 coming into the second, Endicott scored nine minutes into play. Denious responded 15 seconds later and Katie Miller seven seconds after that.

The Gulls had a pair of quick goals to pull within 14-6 but were unable to trim the deficit. Bowdoin ended the game on a 4-1 run.

Miller finished with six goals and a pair of assists. Growney and Bundy each chipped in two goals. Finnerty and Sophia Lubrano both recorded a pair of helpers.

Alex Fitzgerald paced the Gulls with two goals.

Finnerty led the way with 11 draw controls. Lacroix had five for Endicott.

Bella Rino scooped up three ground balls, as did Denious. Rino played the first half in net and made eight saves. Alexandra Rose made one save in the second.

Bowdoin plays its final regular season game at home against Williams on Saturday at noon.
