FREEPORT — Gabe Wagner had three hits and an RBI, Toby Holt hit a two-run double and Anthony Panciocco added an RBI single as the Freeport High School baseball team finally opened its Western Maine Conference season with an 11-5 victory over Lake Region on Thursday. 

Shea Wagner pitched five innings with six strikeouts and one walk. He also had a hit and a run for Freeport, 1-0 and slated to visit Traip Academy today at 4 p.m.

Morse 3,
Medomak Valley 1

Jackson Walker threw six solid innings and Tom Warren picked up three hits and two RBIs to power the Shipbuilders to a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference win over the Panthers at Waldoboro. 

Walker doubled and scored a run, while Asa Hodgdon and Austin Magliozzi picked up a pair of hits in the win as Morse improved to 2-2. 

Walker struck out eight, walked five and permitted just three hits. Warren pitched out of trouble in the seventh for the save.

Ryan Creamer went the distance for Medomak Valley, permitting 11 hits with three strikeouts. 

Morse visits Oceanside on Monday at 4 p.m. 

Lisbon 8, Dirigo 2

It took until the fourth inning to get on the board, but Lisbon rode Lucas Francis’ stellar pitching to an 8-2 Mountain Valley Conference baseball win over Dirigo on Thursday at St. Dominic Academy.

Francis pitched five innings and gave up only two runs with five strikeouts for Lisbon (1-0). He also had a game-high three hits.

Lisbon scored three in the fourth inning and five more in the seventh.

Cole Brown of Dirigo pitched well in five innings, giving up three runs and ringing up five Lisbon batters.

The Greyhounds are slated to take on Boothbay on Saturday at Kents Hill. First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m. 

Bowdoin 10, Thomas 2

The Polar Bears exploded for 10 hits and 10 runs in a Thursday non-conference win over Thomas College. 

Bowdoin (6-19-1) got on the board in the top of the second off an Eric Mah sacrifice fly to left. Connor Lee drove in a fourth-inning run, doubling to left-center field. Colby Joncas made it 3-0 with a groundout RBI to shortstop. Austin Zakow doubled to center field to round out the fourth inning scoring for Bowdoin.

Thomas got on the board in the bottom half of the inning off an RBI single from John Villanueva.

Joncas drove in another run for the Polar Bears in the sixth, singling to left field. 

Villanueva had another RBI for the Terriers, sending a sacrifice fly to right.

The remainder of the game’s offense came from the Polar Bears. Zakow had a two-run double in the eighth to make it 7-2. Jack Wilhoite and Chris Attisani both had singles in the ninth. Wilhoite drove in one run and Attisani plated two.

Ben Osterholtz had the win with five innings of work and four hits allowed. Dan Chapski pitched three innings and allowed two hits. Ryan Winn closed out the game.

Mah, Wilhoite, and Gavin Cann all had a stolen base. Wilhoite went 3-for-4 at the plate. Joncas was 2-for-3 and Zakow went 2-for-2.

Bowdoin plays a doubleheader against Amherst at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Softball

BATH — Medomak Valley broke the KVAC game open with seven runs in the fifth inning en route to a 12-2 win over Morse on Tainter Field. 

Lydia Simmons and Stephanie Morse each slugged a home run for the Panthers, while Addie Jameson and Aubrey Shaffer each singled twice. 

Dory Kulis homered twice for the Shipbuilders, who fell to 2-2 and visit Oceanside on Monday at 4 p.m. Abby Carpenter, Anastasia Alaboudi and Kali Pierce each singled. 

Kulis fanned 12 and walked one on the mound for Morse, while Jameson has seven strikeouts and two walks for Medomak. 

Oxford Hills 16,
Mt. Ararat 0

Kiara McLeod hit a three-run home run in the fourth to lead Oxford Hills to a KVAC victory over Mt. Ararat at Topsham. 

Lauren Marrill went 3-for-3 with three singles and Haileigh Sawyer had three hits, including a home run, for the Vikings (3-0). Ashley Childs earned the win.

Mt. Ararat’s Emily Wormwood took the loss for the Eagles (0-4), who visit Bangor today at 4 p.m.
