BANGOR — The outgoing commander of the Maine Air National Guard has retired after a military career that spanned more than three decades.
Brig. Gen. Scott Young said he was honored to be a part of the “MAINEiacs,” the nickname for the 101st Air Refueling Wing in Bangor. Maj. Gen. Douglas Farnham, Maine’s adjutant general, said Young will be known for “his professionalism and selfless service.”
Young, whose successor is Brig. Gen. Steven Michaud, served in the active-duty Air Force and spent time at Loring Air Force Base before joining the Maine Air National Guard in 1985.
At a May 2 ceremony, Young was awarded the Legion of Merit for his leadership. He’ll now work as a civilian as deputy commissioner for the Maine Department of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management.
