When I think I’ve seen everything possible coming out of this administration in Washington, I once again recoiled in sheer astonishment when I found out that we are now condemning Denmark because the prime minister there, Mette Frederiksen, expressed the sentiment that the country did not want to sell Greenland to the United States after some petulant whim by our fourth-grader in office, Donald Trump.
He responded in a tweet Tuesday that his planned visit to Denmark next month would no longer go ahead because Frederiksen had “no interest in discussing the purchase of Greenland.”
As the largest island in the world, Greenland is an autonomous Danish territory. When the news first broke that Trump was attempting to acquire Greenland, its residents expressed disbelief and outrage at the absurdity of this notion. And likewise, Danes found the entire proposal to be ridiculous and out of left field.
Is this any way for our president to carry out international diplomacy? He doesn’t get what he wants, so he calls them out and stomps away?
If that’s not elementary school bully behavior, I don’t know what is.
At this rate, the United States is on pace to alienate what few remaining friends we have left in the world, all while embracing adversarys like North Korea, Russia and Afghanistan.
Praying hard I wake up from this nightmare soon.
