ARUNDEL – An Arundel man and an Ellsworth woman died Monday when their pickup truck overturned at mile 217 on I-95. A third person in the 2004 Chevrolet pick-up truck also was injured in the afternoon crash.

Maine Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said the driver, Michael Dentico, 63, of Arundel was pronounced dead at the scene. Passenger Jacqueline Gordon, 66, of Ellsworth died on the way to hospital, he said, while passenger Tammy Dentico, 43, also of Arundel, had minor injuries.

Maine State Police troopers said the driver likely fell asleep, McCausland said in a statement.

Witnesses told troopers the pickup truck drifted into the median of the northbound lane of I95 before abruptly veering back across both lanes and into the ditch on the right side of the road. McCausland said the truck overturned and both Michael Dentico and Gordon were ejected.

McCausland said no one in the truck was wearing a seatbelt.
