TOPSHAM — The Mt. Ararat High School boys soccer team rolled to its fourth straight Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference victory, shutting out Skowhegan, 4-0, on Tuesday at Riverside Field. 

The Eagles are 4-2 and visit Edward Little on Friday at 3:30 p.m. Skowhegan fell to 3-4.

Mason Brigham had a big game, scoring two goals and dishing out an assist on a Tristan Zell tally. Eli Ouellette chipped in a goal. 

In net, Mt. Ararat’s James Singleton turned away three shots. 

Skowhegan netminder Zach Carlson had five saves.

The visiting Falcons picked up a big Western Maine Conference win over the host Capers. 

Will Winter returned from injury and tallied two goals to give Freeport a 3-2-1 record heading into Thursday’s home match with Wells (6 p.m.). Owen Howarth picked up an assist. 

Jonas Moon scored for Cape Elizabeth (2-3) late in the second half. 

Golf

VASSALBORO — Freeport punched its ticket to the State Class B Championship on Oct. 5, finishing third in the WMC Shootout at Natanis Golf Club.

York won the WMC title, followed by second-place Cape Elizabeth and the Falcons.

TJ Whelan finished third overall with a round of 78. Teammates Molly Whelan (90), Finn Sharpe (90), Tom Robinson (91) and Ian Carpenter (93) also competed. 

Girls volleyball

KENNEBUNK — Brunswick/Mt. Ararat fell to 1-5 after a 3-0 loss to Kennebunk. 

The Dragons were paced by Lauren Whitlock with 13 digs and three aces, while Naomi Martin had five aces and 13 assists. Sabrina Cooper chipped in four kills, one block and three digs. 

Brunswick/Mt. Ararat hosts Bonny Eagle on Thursday at 6 p.m.

WELLESLEY, Mass. — The Bowdoin field hockey team earned a 5-0 win over Wellesley, giving the Polar Bears a 6-1 record. 

Four different players scored. 

Bowdoin tallied the game’s first goal eight minutes in when Elle Brine inserted to Manveer Sandhu off a penalty corner. Sandhu’s blast found the back of the cage. 

The Polar Bears struck for two more goals in the first five minutes of the second quarter, with Elizabeth Growney and Emma Stevens both scoring for a 3-0 lead. 

Stevens’ second goal came seven minutes into the third quarter, and Kara Finnerty finished off the scoring on a Stevens feed. 

Bowdoin held an 18-1 edge in shots and a 7-2 advantage in penalty corners. Goaltender Maddie Ferrucci had one save.

Janelle Sullivan turned away eight shots for the Blue (4-4). 

Bowdoin visits Trinity on Saturday at 11 a.m. 

Girls soccer

GARDINER — Emily Martin tallied a hat trick to power Morse to a 4-1 KVAC victory over Gardiner. 

The Shipbuilders improved to 2-4-1 and host Leavitt on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. 

Dory Kulis dished out two assists in the win, while Nicole Brazee picked up a goal and an assist.

MJ Williams scored the lone goal for the Tigers. 

Abby Sreden turned away one shot in the Shipbuilder cage. 

Field hockey

BATH — Sophia King and Ivory Spaulding scored within a two-minute stretch of the first half and Mount View held on for a 2-1 KVAC win over Morse at McMann Field. 

Paige Willis cut the deficit in half for the Shipbuilders (3-3) with 10:04 remaining, and Morse had two goals waved off on fouls. 

“We came out flat and turned our engines on a little too late,” said Morse coach Kerri Reno, whose Shipbuilders host Waterville on Thursday at 4 p.m.
