DIXFIELD — Wiscasset scored over and over again in the first half to put away the victory early in what finished as a 6-0 Mountain Valley Conference win over Dirigo on Wednesday.

Cara Viele scored both her goals in the first half, while Gwen Webber scored once in each half for Wiscasset (1-6). Latisha Wright and Kateleen Trask had a goal each in the first half as part of the Wolverines’ five-goal opening stanza.

Dirigo’s Tori Bellegrade saved 18 shots in the loss, while Wiscasset’s Lily Souza stopped  four.

The Wolverines will go for a second win on Saturday at home against Buckfield (5 p.m.). 

Lisbon 6,
Spruce Mountain 2

Kiley Merritt scored a hat trick in each half to carry Lisbon to an MVC win over Spruce Mountain.

Merritt’s six-goal performance lifted the Greyhounds to a 2-3 mark. Lisbon hosts Winthrop on Friday at 3:30 p.m. 

Riece St. Armant set up Merritt for the game’s first goal, and Merritt doubled the Lisbon lead on another St. Armant assist. Destiney Deschaines picked up an assist for a 3-0 Greyhound lead at the break.

In the second half, Merritt scored on a breakaway, and Siara Martin and Giana Russo each earned an assist on Merritt’s final two tallies. 

Jaycee Cole scored two goals for the Phoenix (1-5-1).

In net, Lisbon’s Sarah Haggerty turned away six shots, while Emily Towers finished with seven saves for Spruce Mountain.

After a close first half, Mt. Ararat defended its home field with a strong second half, which secured the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference win.   

The Eagles went into halftime up 1-0 before five goals were scored in the second. 

Alexa Gurney scored the game’s first goal off an assist from Bre McCourt with 58 seconds left until halftime. 

Ema Hawkes made it a 2-0 game, set up by Eliza Libby. Reese Turcotte made it 3-0, and Libby added the next two goals (Erin Harty assisted on Libby’s second goal) before Isadora Theberge completed the scoring. 

Elsa Daulerio had two saves for the Eagles, who host Mt. Blue on Saturday at 2 p.m. 

Allie Annear had 11 saves for Edward Little.

Field hockey

HAMPDEN — Brunswick tallied three unanswered goals in the second half to pull away for a 4-2 KVAC win over Hampden Academy. 

The host Broncos (0-6) scored first as Danielle Masterson put home a shot. But the Dragons (4-4) answered when Sara Scrapchansky scored with 13:48 left until halftime.

Maddie Wayne staked Brunswick to a 2-1 lead with 18:13 left in regulation, and Scrapchansky’s second goal, followed by a score from Abbie Belanger, made for a 4-1 contest. 

Abby Lyons tallied Hampden’s second goal with 9:17 left to complete the scoring. 

Scrapchansky had a four-point game (two goals, two assists), while Sara Coughlin earned an assist. Liberty Krauss turned away four shots in the Dragon net.

Brunswick hosts Camden Hills on Saturday at 10 a.m. 

Bowdoin College

BIDDEFORD —The Bowdoin College women’s soccer team got a pair of goals from Rachael Peacock to take a 2-0 road win at the University of New England on Wednesday night.

The Polar Bears won their second straight game and improved to 2-4-1, while UNE fell to 3-2-2. 

Peacock put the Polar Bears in front in the 27th minute. After receiving the ball near the top of the box, she made a move on a UNE defender and booted it to the top-right corner for the score.

Annie Pyne fed Peacock the ball just inside the circle to set up the second goal. The first-year launched a shot into the top-left corner to put Bowdoin in front by two in the 57th minute.

Penny Rocchio made the Bowdoin lead hold up with two saves to earn her first shutout of the year. Bowdoin outshot UNE, 11-5, including a 7-2 edge on shots on goal. The Polar Bears also had a slim 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

The Polar Bears will head to Hartford, Connecticut, on Saturday to battle Trinity at 3 p.m.
