Susan M. (Owens) Snell

BATH – Susan M. (Owens) Snell, 57, of Bath, a lover of parades and “FUN SOCKS,” passed away on Saturday Oct. 5 2019 surrounded by her family after a courageous 2-year battle with cancer.
Susan was born on March 17, 1962 in Albuquerque, N.M. As the youngest child of an Air Force family, she traveled the world, spending time in Wyoming, the Philippines, Germany, and Idaho before settling in Bath in 1970.
Susan attended school in Bath and is a third-generation graduate of Morse High school, graduating with the class of 1980. After high school, Susan continued her education at LaSalle Junior College in Newton, Mass.
On June 6, 1981, Susan married the love of her life, Leo Snell. Together they raised three sons and enjoyed chasing them around and cheering them on in various sporting events. Later, they enjoyed their travels, specifically to the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, and hiking their favorite place on earth, Acadia National Park.
Susan enjoyed being on the water, whether at Popham Beach, picnicking, reading in the front of the canoe, or especially her and Leo’s weekly “Water Wednesday” adventures. Susan would often be found working in the gardens both at home and with her mother. She loved spending time and endless laughter with her best friends Terry and JJ Miller sitting around a campfire, going out to dinner, yard-sale-ing, or laughing over a drink of “The Doctor” while floating in their canoes throughout Maine.
Susan had what she considered her dream job in being an administrative coordinator to the Dean of Student Affairs at Bowdoin College for 18 years. Her job and the people that she worked with at Bowdoin was something that she always held close in her heart.
She was predeceased by her mother Carolyn (Stackpole) Owens, her father-in-law Bruce Macklin, and her nephew James ‘Jimmy’ Owens.
Susan is survived by her loving husband, Leo of Bath; her three sons, Mathew Snell and his wife Shannon Snell of Sedgwick, Blake Snell and his wife Lindsay Wolfe of Boston, Mass., Steven Snell, currently stationed at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kan.;, her granddaughters Gabriella and Madeleine of Sedgwick. Also surviving Susan is her brother, Charles Owens and his wife Mary of Brunswick, sister, Cheryl Ross of Bath, brother, James Owens and his wife Callie Jo of Sabattus; her mother-in-law, Priscilla Macklin of Bath; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019 at Grace Episcopal Church, 1100 Washington St., Bath, (parking off Edwards Street) with a celebration of life immediately following at Moulton Union on the campus of Bowdoin College.
