New pastor installed at First Baptist in South Portland
First Baptist Church in South Portland installed an Alabama man as its full-time pastor on Oct. 27.
Pastor Zachary Stephenson has a bachelor’s degree in Christian ministry from Leavell College, did some of his graduate work at Beeson Divinity School and will soon have his master’s of divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife Elizabeth and their two sons are from Birmingham, Alabama, and currently reside in South Portland.

In celebration of National Entrepreneurship Month, the Maine Department of Economic & Community Development’s Office of Business Development has awarded 16 Maine Coworking Development Fund and Program grants that include CoworkHERS, Factory 3, 487 Development Corporation, Cloudport, Open Bench Project and Peloton Labs in Portland, and SoPoCoWorks in South Portland.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland announces new officers to their Board of Directors. Julie Ray of Perkins Thompson is the new board president, Lex Meagher of Kennebunk Savings Bank is the new vice president, Jeremy Handlon of Marcum LLP continues as treasurer and Christine Hume of Kennebunk Savings Bank is the new secretary.
Recognition
Joanne Hale of Northern Light Home Care & Hospice was awarded Board Member of the Year during the Home Care & Hospice’s annual Blaine House Tea in Augusta on Nov. 7. Hale is a surveyor for the Joint Commission and has been a board member of Southern Portland’s Northern Light Home Care & Hospice since 2007. According to Northern Light’s President, Hale “is a fierce advocate for home care and hospice.”
Passing the torch
After 18 years of ownership, Jim and Anita Demotropolus have sold Island Treasure Toys in Yarmouth to Paul and Emily Drappi, who bring over 30 years of combined retail experience to the business.
