The senatorial oath of office is simple and direct: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same … So help me God.”

It does not say “I will …”: Defend a president whose words incite a riot; support attempted sedition, attacking the U.S. Capitol, threatening to kill democratic leaders, damaging the Capitol.

It is contrary to the words and actions of Sens. Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley, who aggressively encouraged and supported the rampage.

This was an attack on our system of government and our democracy and an act of insurrection. Where does it say in that oath that a senator will actively support attacks against fellow legislators?

Did they and other complicit Senate Republicans take the senatorial oath to a man or to our system of democracy?
