David A. Harmon

SOUTH PORTLAND – David A. Harmon, 86, of South Portland died on Jan. 31, 2021 at Maine Medical Center after a short illness. He was surrounded by his family. David was born on Nov. 14, 1934 in Portland. He was the son of Stanley M. Harmon and Barbara (Lavigne) Harmon.

He was educated in Scarborough schools. He joined the Marines in 1953 and served during the Cuban Crisis. After leaving the Marines, he started to work at Universal Watkins Laundry. It was there that he met Jean Farr whom he married in 1959. He continued working in the Laundry and Dry-Cleaning business for 50 years. He retired from Pratt Abbott Cleaners in 2001 but returned to work in 2004 at age 70. He was not one to sit still.

He loved doing yard work and being outdoors. He enjoyed all sports and would take walks to Bug Light to keep active, doing puzzles and enjoying days out at restaurants with his family.

David was predeceased by his parents; brother Donald and his wife Jean, to whom he was married for 27 years. He is survived by son David W. Harmon and his fiancée Susan Cartier of Hollis. daughter Cheryl Pierce of Waterboro; seven grandchildren, Nicole Domboski, Jason, Brandon and Jensyn Harmon, Devin Locke and Dakota and Zachery Pierce; eight great-grandchildren; brother Robert Harmon of Tomball, Texas and sisters Ann Davenport of Bow, N.H. and Deborah Parker and her husband Phil of Rangeley.

David also leaves his longtime companion of 34 years, Donna Tracy of South Portland and her children, Robert and Lynne Tracy of Punta Gorda, Fla. and Terry Bishop of Standish; her grandchildren Ben, Lauren, Jordan and Cameron; and her sisters Joyce Crowe, Charlene Hansen and Joan Hughes, all of whom were very near and dear to him.

David lived a long and happy life. He loved his family and was always making jokes and laughing. He will be truly missed by all.

We would like to thank the wonderful nurses and staff in the ICU at Maine Medical Center for all of their kindness and support shown to David and his family.
