WALES — Regional School Unit 4 Superintendent Andrew Carlton advised staff, students and their families Monday that 95 students and staff are quarantined due to three students with COVID-19.

Nine students and three staff members at Sabattus Primary School were quarantined after having close contact with a student who tested positive for the coronavirus, he said.

At Oak Hill High School in Wales, 23 students and six staff members were quarantined after close contact with a student there who tested positive.

And at Libby Tozier School in Litchfield, 44 students and 10 staff members were quarantined after close contact with a COVID-19 positive student.

A fourth student, who attends Carrie Ricker School in Litchfield, also tested positive, “but due to the timing of the positive case there are no close contacts,” Carlton said in a news release.

“All persons who have been deemed close contact have been notified,” Carlton said. “I am informing you today out of an abundance of caution.”

He said the Maine Center for Disease Control or a school representative will contact directly those identified as a close contact or someone who tested positive.

“Close contacts will be asked to quarantine for 10 days from last exposure to the positive individual,” Carlton said. “A negative test result does not get an individual out of quarantine.”

The superintendent asked students, staff and their families to monitor themselves for signs and symptoms of COVID-19, including fever and chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, aches, cold-like symptoms, loss of taste or smell, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Carlton also advised that students and staff should be up-to-date on influenza and routine vaccinations.

Questions for the schools can be directed to the building’s administrator, he advised.

The statement did not mention if the cases affect in-school classes.
