As a regular reader of the Press Herald, I am upset by this week’s news series, about the failure of our Maine State Police to police themselves. You state in Sunday’s article that Maine is one of the few states where officer discipline records are public documents; however, the name of the series is “Misconduct Concealed.”

It may not sell as many papers, but you should be writing about the overwhelming majority of police officers who are putting their lives on the line every day and are doing an outstanding job. If not that, then you should be writing about the majority of cases in which the police took action against fellow officers as needed. Your article could have been written from a positive point of view. You chose the negative.

Weakening confidence in our police force, when you should be strengthening it, is questionable reporting. We citizens are so ready for something positive.
