I served eight years on the City Council with Cheryl Leeman.

Cheryl and I seldom agreed on policy matters, yet I would not hesitate to elect her to the Charter Commission if I lived in District 4. Indeed, the Charter Commission is not chiefly concerned with policy, but rather with how public officials shall arrive at it. In this context, Cheryl will be invaluable. She has served under the old charter and the new and worked with every variety of personality.

No ideologue, Cheryl is a careful listener and a deliberate actor – critical, not conservative. I count myself among those who seek urgent change in how our city is governed, which is why I will cast my vote in District 1 for Shay Stewart-Bouley, yet still I count myself among those who know that urgent change will benefit from the wisdom of experience.

Whether you consider yourself progressive or otherwise, please consider my friend, Cheryl.
