Nick Giancotti hit a two-run double during a three-run fifth inning Tuesday that helped Cheverus beat Gorham 6-3 Tuesday in baseball.

The double helped Cheverus (12-5) extend a 3-2 lead over Gorham (7-7) to 6-2.

MARSHWOOD 10, MASSABESIC 0: Charlie Winter pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts and two walks to lead the Hawks (11-5) past the Mustangs (6-6) at South Berwick.

Reed Smaracko hit a two-run single. Henry Dimmerling, Andrew Gray and Jackson Pollaro each had an RBI single.

GREELY 11, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 1: Grant Allard pitched a three-hitter and added three hits to lead Greely (12-3) over Gray-New Gloucester (2-14) at Cumberland.

Allard struck out seven with no walks. He also drove in two runs. Cooper Neleski drove in three runs and scored twice for the Rangers, including a two-run single in a five-run first inning.

DEERING 5, PORTLAND 3: Connor Coleman struck out two over 5 2/3 innings, and had two doubles and an RBI to lift the Rams (2-12) over the Bulldogs (4-11) at Portland.

Quest Newhall hit a two-run double. Avery Lawrence had two doubles and an RBI. Dempsey Brady added an RBI single.

YARMOUTH 8, POLAND 2: Winning pitcher Jake Gautreau hit a two-run single during a fourth-run sixth inning that broke a tie and helped Yarmouth (13-2) pull away from the Knights (7-9) at Poland.

Will Cox added a two-run double in the seventh for the Clippers.

Gautreau (6-1) struck out six.

FALMOUTH 13, WINDHAM 4: Gus Ford and Sean Dillworth each had four hits as Falmouth (13-3) topped the Eagles (3-12) at Windham.

Ben Wilson picked up the win. Ford had two doubles and Dillworth hit a triple.

Brady Afthim and Ryan Silva each had multiple hits for Windham. Robbie Soucy took the loss.

WELLS 6, TRAIP ACADEMY 0: Lucas Templeton drove in five runs to support Owen Coggeshall’s three-hit pitching as the Warriors (10-6) defeated Traip Academy (2-10) at Wells.

Templeton hit a two-run single in the third inning, then added a three-run double in the fifth.

Coggeshall struck out six and walked one.

SCARBOROUGH 9, SOUTH PORTLAND 3: Angelina Pizzella picked up the win and had a couple of hits to lead the Red Storm (11-3) over the Red Riots (7-6) at South Portland.

Alyssa Deveaux had a single and a double for Scarborough, and Molly Verrault had two hits.

Julia Connors, Chloe Grant and Ella Nickerson all had two singles for South Portland. Mia Micucci took the loss.

GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 7, GREELY 4: Maisie Lerette had three hits, including a two-run homer during a three-run fifth inning that propelled Gray-New Gloucester (12-4) past Greely (4-11) at Cumberland.

Winning pitcher Madi Pelletier, who struck out eight, added two hits for the Patriots, who trailed 3-2 until the fifth.

Lily Rawnsley struck out five and also had two hits for the Rangers.

GORHAM 4, CHEVERUS 3: The Rams (9-5) scored four runs in the third inning to beat the Stags (3-11) at Portland.

Tatyana Biamby and Morgan Roast each hit two singles for Gorham. Amber Bretton picked up the win and added a double.

SACOPEE VALLEY SWEEPS NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY: Lindsay Fox had four hits, including a home run, to lead Sacopee Valley (9-6) to an 11-2 victory against the Panthers (7-7) to complete a doubleheader sweep at Yarmouth.

The Hawks used two bunt singles, a wild pitch and a fielder’s choice to score three runs in the second inning of the first game and defeat NYA, 3-2.

ST. DOMINIC-OLD ORCHARD BEACH SPLIT: Kathleen Dean had two triples in the doubleheader, and Bella Berryman had a triple and two doubles, Benie Yombe added a double and Alyssa Hart, Ava Apodaca and Lucy Frenette each had a single for the Saints (3-9), who split a doubleheader with the Gulls (1-11).

Dean pitched both games for the Saints and earned the win in St. Dom’s 18-9 victory in the second game.

Pitcher Summer St. Louis led OOB to a 3-2 win in the opener with a complete game, striking out eight. St. Louis and Kelly Palkovic each had two hits in the first game, and Riley Fish and Jessica Lavgine were OOB’s repeat hitters in the second game.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

ST. DOMINIC 19, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER/POLAND 9: Taryn Cloutier scored seven goals as the Saints (5-5) beat the 26ers (1-8) at Gray.

Emily Wallingford and Jessica Zimmerman each had four goals for St. Dom’s. Emma Roy added two goals, with Natalie Brooke and Isabella Pelletier scoring one apiece.

Andrea Smith scored four goals and Ellie Steele had three and two assists to lead GNG/Poland.

Mackenzie Baston made 20 saves in goal.

BERWICK ACADEMY 11, MARSHWOOD 10: Phoebe Clark’s five goals lifted the Bulldogs (5-3) over the Hawks (9-3) at South Berwick.

Casey Houlahan had four goals and five assists for Berwick Academy. Alex Kingsland and Ella Sweet each scored once, and goalie Mae McDouglas made seven saves.

Meagan Wentworth’s four goals and one assist led Marshwood. Fina Melino had two goals and an assist. Lily Dupree made five saves in goal.

BIDDEFORD 10, SANFORD 5: Zowie Cheetham Wilmot had a hat trick to power the Tigers (8-4) over the Spartans (3-7) at Biddeford.

Valentina Laflamme and Cece Keller scored two goals apiece. Abby Allen, Ashjan Abdulsalam and Mackenzie Day also scored.

KENNEBUNK 16, GORHAM 3: Lily Schwartzman scored five goals and Sydney Dumas had a hat trick as the Rams (11-0) cruised past the Rams (2-8) at Kennebunk.Ruby Sliwkowski and Dani Gassman chipped in with two goals apiece. Emily Archibald had a goal and four assists.

Emma Stevens, Anna Provost and Morgan Chapman scored for Gorham.

WELLS 18, TRAIP ACADEMY 4: Four goals a piece from Ruby McMinis and Norah Stevens led the Warriors (5-6) to a  win over the Rangers (0-12) at Wells.

Viv Brousseau, Jaden Greaves and Anna Woodward all tallied two goals for Wells. Molly Humphrey made nine saves in goal.

Alexis Hernandez led Traip with a hat trick. Quinn McPherson scored once. Goalie Charlotte Mast made 10 saves.

NOTES

FIVE HIGH SCHOOL seniors have earned $5,000 scholarships from the Maine Sports Hall of Fame.

Morgan Porter of Scarborough High, Kerrigan Anuszewski of Winthrop, William Cassidy of Edward Little, Parker Desjardins of Forest Hills and Morgan Schwinn of Washington Academy were announced as recipients of the Hall of Fame’s 2021 Senior Scholar Athlete Scholarships.

The winners were selected from 186 applicants. Porter won state swimming championships in the 500 freestyle and 100 backstroke, and has a 4.0 GPA. She will continue her swimming career at Bates College in Lewiston.
