June C. Roy

YARMOUTH – June C. Roy of Yarmouth, passed away at the age of 80 at Mercy Hospital on May 27, 2021, while under the care of Northern Light Home Care and Hospice, after a lengthy period of failing health. Cause of death was atrial fibrillation and chronic autoimmune issues.

June was born in Worcester, Mass. on July 3, 1940. She was an only child and the daughter of John “Jimmy” and Clara Mattus. She was a graduate of Commerce High School in Worcester, Mass. and worked at the Worcester Gas Light Company until her marriage.

She met her future husband, David Roy, at the Gas Light Company, where he was also working while he was a third year Coop student attending Northeastern University. David graduated from Northeastern in June of 1961 and on Sept. 9, 1961 they got married and began living in Worcester. In September of 1963 they were moved to Wallingford, Conn. by David’s employer, Aetna Casualty and Surety Co. and also in that month June gave birth to the first of three children. Some 16 years later, in 1979, it was moving time again as David got a promotion and transferred to Maine, where the family, now with three children, settled in Yarmouth.

June is survived by her husband, David; oldest son Scott Roy and wife Trisha of Brownfield and three grandchildren Brianna, Jordan and Matthew; daughter, Michele Clancy and husband Kevin of North Yarmouth and two granddaughters Erin and Katherine; and youngest son, Keith Roy and wife Heidi of Falmouth Foreside and one grandson, Wyatt.

June is also survived by sister-in-law and best friend, Annette Kincaid of North Yarmouth and sister-in-law, Linnea Roy of Clinton, Mass.; as well as cousins in the Worcester, Mass. area.

June and the family would also like to thank Dr. Daniel Pierce of Intermed in Yarmouth (June’s primary care physician) for his extraordinary care of her for over 20 years – he was the best. Also Dr. Brian Daikh (rheumatologist), Dr. Andreas Stefan (gastroenterologist), Dr. Paul McGrath (cardiologist) and the doctors and nurses at Mercy Hospital and the Mercy Wound Clinic for all they did for June for a period of over three years.

June has been a full-time stay at home wife and mother since the birth of her first child in 1963 and over all the years since as a wife, mother and grandmother – nobody could have done it better.

As her husband, to me she has been my crutch and I have been the luckiest, most spoiled guy in the world for nearly 60 years. She was my everything and she made my life worth living.

Per her wishes, there will be no services and as we mourn her as a grieving family we will obey her request. A private family only burial will take place at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland
