CALAIS — A behavioral health counselor in a Maine school district has been charged with sexually assaulting a student.

The counselor has been charged with sending sexually explicit photos and videos to a 16-year-old student in an alternative district school in Calais, the Bangor Daily News reported Monday. She has also been charged with engaging in sexual acts with the same student in October, the paper reported.

The school educates students who have behavioral impairments.

The counselor is charged with two counts of gross sexual assault and one count of unlawful sexual contact.

A Machias area attorney is representing the counselor in the case. The attorney and Calais school officials have not commented on it publicly.
