I would like to thank Sen. Angus King for his strong support for voting rights and for working hard (so far unsuccessfully) to convince Republican senators to protect this foundation of democracy.
Meanwhile, Sen. Susan Collins should be ashamed of herself. Standing by while 19 states pass laws designed to make voting more difficult for people who are marginalized in one way or another. People who work two jobs and have a hard time getting to the polls. People who are forced to wait in lines for hours in order to vote because polling places in their neighborhoods have been closed. Standing by while state election laws get passed to put politically vested folks in charge of counting votes instead of independent volunteers.
It is becoming more and more clear that the leaders and stalwarts of the Republican Party (including Sen. Collins) do not think they can win a fair election.
