Charles “Chuck” Kerry Hornberger

SCARBOROUGH – Charles “Chuck” Kerry Hornberger passed away with his husband, Ted, at his side on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough after an 18-month struggle with cancer. Chuck was born in Lancaster, Pa., in 1946, the son of William Buch and Charlotte Naomi (Weaver) Hornberger of Lititz, Pa. Chuck held a bachelor’s degree in music from Lebanon Valley College and an MBA in information systems from Suffolk University. He and his husband had a blessing (commitment) ceremony in 1985 in New Haven, Conn., and were married in 2004 in Brighton, Mass. when it became legal for same sex couples to marry. Chuck retired after 27 years in Radiology Information Systems at Children’s Hospital in Boston. In retirement he was the Director of the OLLI Singers at USM, a member of the Maine Pops Concert Band, and a member of the St. Luke’s Episcopal Cathedral choir. Chuck was a punster, always one for a good joke (though not at someone’s expense), and always ready to help a friend. Chuck also loved travel and a good adventure which for him meant things like the Olympic luge run in Lillehammer, Norway, a panoramic train car through the Alps, and a horizontal rollercoaster in Vienna, Austria. Chuck was predeceased by his parents; and older brother, William (Barry) Hornberger; and is survived by his husband, The Rev. Canon Dr. Ted J. Gaiser, their daughters Julia McDonald Bulhof of Lake Charles, La. and Sarah Kathleen McDonald of Austin, Texas; and his brother, John Hornberger and wife Cynthia of Landisville, Pa. A celebration of Chuck’s life will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Cathedral on Saturday, Feb. 5, at 11 a.m. You may offer your condolences or share your memories at http://www.jonesrichandbarnes.com.Memorial donations can be made toSt. Luke’s Cathedral(memo: music program),143 State St.,Portland, ME 04101 orMaine Pops Concert Band,c/o Laura Merten, Treasurer,72 Harbor Place,South Portland, ME 04106(memo: In memory of Chuck Hornberger)
