Marie Louise (Chase) Crockett

PORTLAND – Marie Louise (Chase) Crockett, 93, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022 at the Barron Center in Portland. Marie was born in Hartford, Conn. on April 4, 1928, the youngest daughter of the late Lester W. and Helen B. Chase. She attended schools in Hartford before moving to Maine in 1945 where she graduated from Winterport High School in 1946.She married Everett W. Crockett on June 21, 1948. With Everett returning to active duty with the US Air Force, Marie and the family were stationed with him at Chateauroux, France; Wiesbaden, Germany; and, Wheelus AFB, Libya as well as stateside bases in Massachusetts, Georgia, Maryland and Montana. She volunteered at numerous organizations during these assignments.Following Everett’s retirement in 1970, they returned to Maine, living in Prospect Harbor before relocating to Portland. Marie worked at 75 State Street in Portland; OceanView in Falmouth; and The Highlands in Topsham, in various administrative capacities. She retired in 1990.She and Everett visited the Southwest and numerous national parks before his health began to fail. She also took two trips to England on her own and to Switzerland accompanied by her youngest daughter, Anne. She traveled to Rome and Assisi, Italy on pilgrimage in 2009. During her lifetime, she also visited Greece, Malta, the Caribbean and eastern Canada with family members.Everett died in October of 1997 after 49 years of marriage. Marie is survived by her children, John, Katherine and Anne. She was predeceased by her son, Richard and daughter, Jane. She is also survived by five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.Marie served as Eucharistic minister and lector at St. John the Evangelist Church in South Portland. Singing was one of her greatest joys, and, she participated in the Portland Community Chorus and The Magic of Christmas concerts for over twenty years. She was a member of church choirs for many years. Visiting hours celebrating Marie’s life will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022, at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited in the chapel on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022 at 9:15 a.m. followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Road, Scarborough. Interment will be at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Augusta at a later date.
