Having worked for an organization swooped up under the MaineHealth umbrella, I read with interest the Times Record article “Bean, MaineHealth rank high on Forbes’ 2022 list of best employers in U.S.,” published Feb. 24 on Page C1 of the Press Herald. I was curious to learn what criteria were used to determine who made the list and what, in particular, was notable about MaineHealth. Unfortunately, those criteria were not provided.

My experience, after our organization merged with MaineHealth, was not always rosy. It would have been appropriate for The Times Record to interview some clinicians and caregivers working in MaineHealth, not just administration, about their impressions of the workplace.

Another question of interest would be: Why does an organization rated so highly as a good place to work barely provide a living wage for its certified nursing assistants, who are chronically stretched thin with understaffing? Anyone who has been hospitalized recently knows that these employees are the heart of care at MaineHealth. They deserve the dignity and respect of a living wage. How about an article about that?
