Regardless of how you feel about Gov. Mills’ policies, one fact is indisputable: She loves Maine! That love came through loudly and clearly in her State of the State address last month, as it does in any public speaking she does about Maine.
Maine’s prior governor, Gov. Mills’ likely opponent in this year’s race, couldn’t wait to move out of Maine when his second term expired. Any positive comments he made about Maine could have been counted on one hand with several fingers left over.
It’s not enough to be the state’s chief executive. The governor needs to also be the state’s principal cheerleader, touting all the state has to offer any chance she gets, to anyone who will listen. Janet Mills understands that. Only when the love of one’s state is as authentic as hers will that message be successfully conveyed.
