I want to thank Maine Millennial columnist Victoria Hugo-Vidal for making us aware of the letter signed by our representatives, Chellie Pingree and Jared Golden, regarding travel nurses and the staffing agencies that employ them (“Don’t blame nurses’ pay for ills of health care,” Feb. 20, Page D1). I wish they could shadow a nurse on her now-required 12-hour shift and then say she is paid too much.

There is money to be made in our health care system, but it is not being made by the workers. Our bill last month for two CT scans at our local hospital was over $8,000. The average fee in Canada for a CT scan is under $700.

As long as it is profitable, we will never change our dysfunctional health care system.
