Carolyn Bjorkman Perry

BRUNSWICK – Carolyn B. Perry, 85, passed away peacefully at the Midcoast Senior Health Center on Feb. 21, 2022. She was born in New Britain, Conn. on Nov. 1, 1936, the daughter of Clifford and Mildred Lundqvist Bjorkman.

Carolyn graduated from New Britain High School and graduated from Westbrook Junior College in 1957 with a degree in medical lab technology. She worked as a lab technician for Augusta General Hospital for several years and enjoyed teaching new lab students each year. Carolyn later enjoyed a successful career in real estate. She worked with numerous local realtors and eventually owned and operated the Giroux and Perry Agency with her friend Joan Giroux for nearly two decades. She was honored as Realtor of the Year by the Kennebec Valley Board of Realtors in 1984.

Helping others was at the heart of Carolyn’s life. She joined the Kiwanis Club of Augusta in 1987, which was the first year women were admitted as members. She was President of Kiwanis Club in 1997, Kiwanis Lt. Governor in 1999, and was the first woman Governor of the Kiwanis New England District which includes Bermuda, 2003-2004. Carolyn was a holder of a Red Jacket supporting Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Institute and a Hixson Award supporting the Kiwanis International Foundation.

She was also honored with the Tower Award for alumni excellence from UNE in 2017, and was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

She enjoyed traveling, making two trips to Sweden to visit family. Along with her late partner and best friend Dr. Alice Savage, Carolyn enjoyed traveling to India, Africa for safari, Costa Rica for birding, and to Churchill, Canada to see polar bears. After spending her childhood summers in Martha’s Vineyard the Vineyard always held a special place in her heart.

Carolyn loved life and made quick friends with everyone who crossed her path. She was quick-witted, strong-willed, and loved to make others laugh. Carolyn believed in community, service to others, and making a difference. She believed our world could be improved if everyone simply dedicated a little bit of their time, talent and love toward the common good.

In addition to Alice, Carolyn is predeceased by her parents; her nephew, Timothy McGee.

She is survived by her sister, Lucille and Dick McGee of Canterbury, Conn.; her daughter, Jennifer Perry and Cindy Morin of Pownal, her son, David Perry and Judy Whyte of West Gardiner; Janie Bouchard; grandchildren Mackenzie Perry, Megan Perry and Seth McFarland; and great-grandson, Rory McFarland; Grace and Ben Milliken; and nieces Lucinda Sheldon, Susan Chambers, Andrea Dube, nephews Robert Forrest and George Forrest; and her dear cousin, Gunilla Englund; and her family in Sweden.

A celebration of life will be announced in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the organization that was dearest to her heart.
