The annual TD Beach to Beacon 10K in Cape Elizabeth is returning Aug. 6 after a two-year hiatus caused by the pandemic and volunteers are being sought to serve as host families, flag intersections and work at the Kids Fun Run.

Joan Benoit Samuelson, Olympic marathon gold medalist and Cape Elizabeth native, founded the race in 1998 to benefit children’s charities in Maine. The course begins on Route 77 near Crescent Beach State Park, navigates parts of Old Ocean House and Shore roads and ends at Fort Williams Park.

The TD Charitable Foundation, which is affiliated with major sponsor TD Bank, announced its annual $30,000 donation will benefit The Cromwell Center for Disabilities Awareness. The center’s mission is to “promote safe, respectful and inclusive schools and communities,” according to its website.
