The Falmouth police and fire departments will face off in a softball showdown at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, for National Night Out at the Legion Fields Complex.

Chief John Kilbride will lead the Police Department side, and Chief Howard Rice will head up the Falmouth Fire-EMS team. The game will determine which department will hold the championship title and which team will wash the other’s vehicles.

The event is free, but donations will be taken with all proceeds benefiting Maine Special Olympics. There will be a 50/50 raffle, and burgers and hot dogs will be available for a suggested donation.

National Night Out has been “an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie” since 1984, according to the National Association of Town Watch website.
