Nicholas Bernate

Murray Plumb & Murray has hired Nicholas Bernate as a senior associate in its litigation group. Bernate, of Freeport, was previously a shareholder of Clement, Fitzpatrick & Kenworthy, in Santa Rosa, Calif. He also worked as a senior associate at the law firm of Bledsoe, Diestel, Treppa & Crane LLP in San Francisco.

Joshua Randlett

Cross Insurance has hired Joshua Randlett as vice president, corporate counsel. Randlett, of Hampden, was previously a judge of the Maine District Court. Prior to that, he was a partner at the Rudman Winchell law firm in Bangor, where his practice focused primarily on employment law and litigation and personal injury defense.

Dr. Jonathan Proulx

Dr. Jonathan Proulx has joined New England Cancer Specialists. Dr. Proulx will see patients at the Portsmouth and Kennebunk offices. He completed his fellowship at the University of Massachusetts medical campus in Springfield.

Thomas Marshall

Thomas Marshall joined the staff at Thomas College as an athletic trainer. Marshall most recently served as assistant athletic trainer at Colby College.

Andrea Galuza and Geniene Marco join Portside Real Estate Group as the Galuza Marco Team. Galuza joins as a broker and Marco joins as an associate broker with a combined 30 years of experience in the Bath and Brunswick area. Prior to Portside, Galuza and Marco worked at a large local franchise and have been consistently the top performing real estate team in the Brunswick/Bath area.

Sumon Datta

UMaine Extension has hired agricultural engineer Sumon Datta an assistant extension professor and extension agricultural engineer. Datta will be working statewide with Maine’s agricultural community. Datta recently completed his Ph.D. and postdoctoral training in biosystems and agricultural engineering at Oklahoma State University.

PROMOTIONS

Julie Collins

Day’s Jewelers promoted Julie Collins to vice president of merchandising in their corporate office. Collins, of Sidney, previously worked as the gemstone and watch buyer for Day’s. She has worked for the company since 2002 when she began as an office manager in the company’s Auburn location.

Scott Anderson

Verrill Dana LLP announced that longtime partner Scott Anderson has become the firm’s new managing partner. Anderson has worked for the firm for nearly two decades and held a variety of leadership positions, including six years on the firm’s executive board, and a period on the compensation committee. He also held positions on the marketing and business development committee and the associate development committee. Most recently, Anderson served as the firm’s practice group coordinator.

AWARDS
David Townsend, a University of Maine professor of oceanography, was recognized by the Gulf of Maine Council with its Visionary Award. Townsend has studied the biological oceanography of the Gulf of Maine and other coastal seas for more than four decades, particularly the physical-biological coupling of phytoplankton, zooplankton and larval fishes.

Pat Vampatella, a member of the board of directors of SeniorsPlus, was recognized by UnitedHealthcare as one of its 2022 New England Champions. Vampatella, of New Gloucester, volunteered for SeniorsPlus for nearly 20 years, serving as board chair until June. She was recognized for her contributions to her community through her volunteer work at SeniorsPlus.

Elisabelle Bocal

The Junior League of Portland named Elisabelle Bocal president for 2022-23. Bocal joined the Junior League of Portland in 2012. She serves on the board of trustees for the Portland Public Library and interprets for refugee and immigration services through Catholic Charities of Maine.

BOARD APPOINTMENTS

Rob Ruesch

Verrill Partner Robert Ruesch was elected to the American Bar Association’s forum on construction law’s governing committee for a three-year term. Ruesch focuses his practice on construction, design and surety law. He has a long history with the ABA’s Forum on Construction Law, beginning in 2014. From April to September of 2020, Ruesch was a vital part of the COVID-19 Leadership Roundtable Series, moderating and speaking at the webinars.
