Your Aug. 4 story on the disproportionately high number of minority students suspended in Portland schools (Page A1) glaringly lacks a conclusion.

Is the story, by Staff Writer Lana Cohen (no relation to the letter writer), suggesting that the suspensions represent an unacceptable and/or a targeting of minorities? If that is not the implication, then what is the point of the story?

Alternately, is your conclusion that minorities and ESL students misbehave at a higher percentage than the majority population? If that is the suggestion, then why don’t you have anyone quoted on what school officials need to do to help these kids out?

Any editors on duty?
